All of us know the expression 'to swear like a trooper' - but just how does a trooper swear? Not, it would appear, from Simon Cullen's Soldier Talk, simply by peppering every sentence with a seasoning of conventional four-letter words. Far from it! His language is infinitely more colourful and complicated than we poor civilians could possibly imagine. Cullen, who, during his years in the Royal Corps of Transport, has heard it all at first hand, now provides us with a hands on guide to the arcane world of military jargon. It has to be said, and said emphatically, that this is not a book for the Politically Correct. The British Army Soldier, has no truck with such namby-pamby double-speak. He still calls a spade a spade and you can like it or leave it. Good for him! He has always served us well and, as with many other professions, he has created his own vocabulary, often incomprehansible to outsiders, but rich in vigour and imagination. Shoul you eavesdrop on him talking to one of his muckers, now, thanks to Simon Cullen, you can at least go home and look up in Soldier Talk what he was talking about.
