The History of the Seaforth Highlanders is so much more than a book of war history, as it answers a question many of today's very successful young men in the city and the media sometimes ask of themselves: how would I have stood up to such a test? Only the first part of the book is about regular soldiers. The second and greater part is really about twentieth century breavehearts, civilian conscripts, officers as well as men, who were called up to go to war to defend their country against a totalitarian madman who, at the time, had the best army in the world. It is a story about 'jocks' not generals. Tatics and strategy are at a minimum and it is what the soldiers did in spite of sometimes appalling casulties that will make the greatest impression on the reader.
