The Board of the Highlanders Museum (Queen’s Own Highlanders Collection) requires a new Director to lead what is an independent, Highland Heritage Centre; The Museum houses the collection of The Queen’s Own Highlanders (Seaforth and Camerons) and is based in Fort George, near Inverness, a visitor attraction which attracts approximately 65,000 visitors a year (pre COVID 19).

The successful candidate should have:

  • Excellent leadership and management skills
  • A proven track record of income generation, strategic planning, marketing, PR, communication, IT skills, financial management and stakeholder engagement

This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to build on and develop this accredited Museum and to maintain the Museum’s existing 5 * Visit Scotland rating. The Museum is keen to embrace digital technology and grow online engagement and there has been a significant amount of work done on our IT infrastructure to facilitate this. In response to the COVID 19 pandemic the Museum has created new digital income streams which the successful candidate will be responsible for promoting and growing.

Reporting to the Museum Board, the successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of the Museum’s services, policies and programming, with oversight of its trading company and brand development. This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant mark in the museum and visitor attraction world.

Salary: This will be commensurate with experience and be circa £30,000 per annum.
