On 17<\/span><\/span>th<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>September 1994, the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>1st Battalion<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Gordon Highlanders\u00a0<\/span><\/span>amalgamated with the Queen\u2019s Own Highlanders (Seaforth and Camerons) to<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>form\u00a0<\/span><\/span>the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>1st Battalion<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>Highlanders (Seaforth, Gordons <\/span><\/span>and Camerons)<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The first duty of the newly amalgamated regiment was a tour of Northern Ireland from 1995 \u2013 1997. It was then deployed to\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Croatia, Bosnia, and Kosovo<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>during the Yugoslav Wars<\/span>, and remained there from 1998<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u2013\u00a0<\/span><\/span>2003<\/span>. Following the terrorist attack on the World Trade Centre on the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>11th of<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>September\u00a0<\/span><\/span>2001,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>The<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Highlanders saw action in Iraq and Afghanistan.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>On 28th March 2006, the regiment became known as The Highlanders, 4th Battalion, Royal Regiment of Scotland (4 SCOTS), and is still active today.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

From terrain maps of Afghanistan\u00a0to khaki\u00a0uniforms worn in Iraq\u00a0and world-class modern weapons,\u00a0The Highlanders\u2019 Museum is dedicated to collecting items connected to The Highlanders (1994 \u2013 2006). Although these objects represent a much more recent\u00a0part\u00a0of our collective and regimental\u00a0history,\u00a0it is crucial that the Museum conserves and\u00a0documents\u00a0these histories for later generations.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The collection holds\u00a0the\u00a0rare\u00a0Freedom Medallion, which was\u00a0presented\u00a0to\u00a0The Highlanders, 4th Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Scotland\u00a0by Aberdeen City Council\u00a0on 1st of July 2006.\u00a0The medallion\u00a0represents the Freedom of The City of Aberdeen<\/a>,<\/span><\/span><\/a>\u00a0and has been awarded by the city to both individuals,\u00a0organisations, and military units.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
