The project aimed to bring the thoughts and opinions of our community inside the museum space, offering the chance to “have your say in our display”.

The Community Curators attended a six-week course of lectures and workshops, learning about the conflict, the display of colonial collections in museums, and how to write accessible labels for museum objects. As a group, they each selected their objects and produced new, researched labels for the objects on display from the Indian Rebellion – importantly, the group chose to refer to the conflict as the First War of Indian Independence, as they felt this better reflected the intention of the labels.

The Highlanders’ Museum would like to thank our Community Curators for taking part, and the researchers and museum professionals who helped bring the course to life: Dr Jim MacPherson, Dr Nicole Hartwell, Chris Berriman, and Sitakumari.
[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=”1_2,1_2″ _builder_version=”4.10.6″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding=”4px|||||”][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ _builder_version=”4.10.6″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_image src=”https://www.thehighlandersmuseum.com/newversion/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/20220421_160046221_iOS-1-1.jpg” alt=”Community Curators’ labels on display in the Seaforth room” title_text=”Community Curators’ labels on display in the Seaforth room” show_in_lightbox=”on” align=”center” _builder_version=”4.10.6″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_image][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ _builder_version=”4.10.6″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_image src=”https://www.thehighlandersmuseum.com/newversion/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/20220421_142745556_iOS-1-1.jpg” alt=”Community Curators panel in the museum entrance” title_text=”Community Curators panel in the museum entrance” show_in_lightbox=”on” align=”center” _builder_version=”4.10.6″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_image][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.10.6″ _module_preset=”default” background_enable_color=”off” custom_padding=”||5px|||” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.10.6″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.10.6″ text_font=”||||||||” text_text_color=”#FFFFFF” header_font=”Barlow Semi Condensed||||||||” header_text_align=”left” header_text_color=”#708090″ header_font_size=”60px” header_letter_spacing=”2px” header_line_height=”1.2em” header_2_font=”Barlow Semi Condensed|||on|||||” header_2_text_align=”left” header_2_text_color=”#708090″ header_2_font_size=”27px” header_2_letter_spacing=”2px” header_2_line_height=”1.2em” header_3_font=”||||||||” header_3_text_align=”center” header_3_text_color=”#ffffff” header_3_font_size=”27px” header_3_letter_spacing=”2px” header_3_line_height=”1.7em” text_orientation=”center” custom_margin=”||7px|||” custom_padding=”||12px|||” locked=”off” global_colors_info=”{}”]
Aims
[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text quote_border_color=”#FFFFFF” _builder_version=”4.10.6″ _module_preset=”default” text_font=”||||||||” text_text_color=”#708090″ text_line_height=”2em” header_3_font=”|||on|||||” header_3_text_align=”left” header_3_text_color=”#708090″ header_3_font_size=”18px” header_3_letter_spacing=”2px” header_3_line_height=”1.5em” global_colors_info=”{}”]
This project had two primary aims:

1.
