This year’s temporary exhibition, The War Come Home, briefly explores the impact of the First World War on those soldiers who had returned home with disabilities due to War injuries, sickness or wounds.

Built in the wake of the Battle of Culloden the fort reaches its 250th anniversary this year.
Discover why and how this mighty fortress was constructed, explore the history it has seen and experience Highland culture through music, dance and song.
Over the weekend, visitors can enjoy a pipe band, costumed characters from the Fort’s past, a 1940s zone with big band and swing dancers, and a WW2 camp with tents and vehicles. There will be lots of activities to get involved in – including making your very own LEGO fort, or having a go at the Fort George quiz. Children can enjoy getting involved in a pike drill, exploring handling boxes, as well as dress-up activities. There will also be performances from Fèis Rois Ceilidh Trail, Military Wives Choir and The Margaret Stewart Trio.
Standard entry prices apply for this event and Historic Environment Scotland Members get in for free!
